Birth of JC Develey
The future company founder, Johann Conrad Develey, was born on February 5th in Lindau on Lake Constance and soon moved to Augsburg. He was quickly taken with the big city and in 1844 he moved to Munich.
Founding of Develey
Johann Conrad Develey founded his mustard factory directly on Munich's Kaufingerstrasse. Mustard varieties ranging from medium to hot are produced here - of course in the finest French style. The mustard creation is still made today according to the original recipe from 1854.
Sugar meets mustard – sweet mustard is born!
Johann Conrad Develey mixes hot mustard with caramelized sugar and secret spices and voila – sweet mustard is born! A taste that is still a delicious accompaniment to the Weißwurst parties in Munich today.
“Royal Bavarian Court Purveyor”
Johann Conrad Develey becomes “Purveyor to the Royal Bavarian Court”. His fans include King Otto and Prince Regent Luitpold – highly aromatic and royally recognized!
Death of the company founder
Johann Conrad Develey dies. His life's work continues to shine, and his grave in Munich's southern cemetery, a gift from King Ludwig II, tells of his legend. Johann Conrad Develey's passion for innovation and pioneering spirit continue to shape the company's philosophy even after his death.

Develey is coming out with something completely new in 2014! Goodbye, Johann - hello, Johanna! Young, cheeky and with a heart for her homeland, she is the fresh face in the mustard dirndl. Just in time for the 160th anniversary of sweet mustard, Johanna is setting off to conquer Bavaria's largest cities with mustard charm, right next to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn stations. A real eye-catcher!
The sauce range is also launching, with 11 delicious varieties.

The "Our Original" range is growing and now brings even more pep into your kitchen! With the brand new "Our Original" ketchup & mayonnaise range, we conjure up classic tomato ketchup, exotic curry ketchup and creamy mayonnaise directly onto your plate.
Since 2020 we have had the Develey Hot Chili Ketchup in our luggage, refined with the unmistakable aroma of TABASCO® Original Red Sauce.
German Sustainability Award
A year full of awards: First, we snatch the "Axia Best Managed Companies Award" for our excellent company management. The managing director, Michael Durach, also snatched the title of "Entrepreneur Of The Year 2019" from Ernst & Young. And as if that wasn't enough fireworks, the highlight comes at the end: the "German Sustainability Award"! Why? Because at Develey we are not only delicious, but also sustainable!
We are celebrating 175 years!
We look at 18 locations in 10 countries and celebrate the fact that we are not only mustard experts, but also sustainable. The mustard? Climate neutral and world class! And because we not only show taste, but also heart, sustainability is also a big priority for us: The entire mustard range is now climate neutral - and this also applies to all German locations.

Develey erfindet sich neu! Ein länderübergreifender Markenrelaunch verleiht der Marke einen neuen, bunten Anstrich. Die Positionierung wird angepasst und auch das Markenlogo kommt jetzt freundlich lächelnd daher. Die Produkte an sich bleiben aber die wohlbekannten Genussbringer.

DOES DEVELEY ALSO HAVE VEGAN FOOD?
Mustard creations are not only vegan, but also perfect partners for everything that claims to be meat but isn't - like the white sausage made from peas. We also have vegan stars in the world of sauces: light mayo and BBQ sauce. The balsamic dressing is also a hit at every vegan salad party!
HOW IS MUSTARD MADE?
It's very simple: we take first-class mustard seeds and grind them into a fine powder. Then we add the big mix: water, sugar, vinegar and spices. The sweet mustard is made with brown sugar instead of honey - which is why it is also vegan.
WHERE CAN I FIND DEVELEY PRODUCTS?
You can easily buy the products in the online shop. Delivery time is 5 to 7 days. But if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait, you can just sprint to the nearest supermarket. And the best part? You can find Develey sauces, dressings and mustards in almost every major chain store. No plate will be left dry!
WHAT ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY?
First of all, it's Develey's turn! We're working our way through the sustainability concept step by step. Production is climate-conscious, the ingredients come from the neighborhood. And by 2025? There's already a plan for all products to be packaged in recyclables. 100% of the mustard range is already recyclable.
